The Grafted Grapevine Nursery, LLC has been providing growers, large and small, with high quality grafted and own-rooted grapevines since 1957. Owners/operators, Herman and Ute Amberg, started the nursery while Herman was working for Dr. Nelson Shaulis at Cornell University’s Geneva Experimental Station.
During Herman’s tenure with Cornell, he co-authored the Geneva Double Curtain Training system publication, worked on the first micro-climate study of the Finger Lakes, NY, and participated in many other grape research projects. In 1968, Herman decided to leave Cornell to pursue the nursery full time.
And now that Ute and Herman’s son Eric, is taking over the business as the second generation, our customers will be able to continue to obtain their high-quality vines for years to come. And coming soon Eric’s son Neal, who is currently in college studying viticulture will be the third generation. Neal also shares the passion of his father and grandfather for the nursery business.
Grafted Grapevine Nursery share the industry’s concern about virus infection, and strives to work with material that is either certified or virus tested. Currently we are participating in the development of New York State’s certification program. Once this program is up and running, we will have a greater pool of certified propagation materials to work with.
We also understand the industry’s need for custom propagation of vines in both large and small amounts. To this end we continue to provide custom propagation services for our customers.
Our mission is to use our 60 years of experience to produce the highest quality vines, and pursue the best grape varieties and clones to enable our customers to grow productive successful vineyards.
